We are extremely excited to announce the launch of chirrps.com.
What is chirrps?
Very simply, chirrps combines a powerful search engine with a social community. Both are powered by Twitter.
Search
Chirrps.com filters the firehose of information from Twitter by simultaneously displaying popular and live streaming tweets. These tweet streams can be filtered even further by selecting a category (News, Entertainment, Tech, etc). The user has the ability to search for a keyword, hashtag, or phrase from all of Twitter or within a certain category. So, whereas a search for apple within the Tech category will most likely produce results about Apple Inc, a search for apple with the Inspiration category may tell you that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Once a user is logged in, they have the ability to retweet any result that is displayed. The retweet can be edited before it is sent out.
Community
Every Twitter user has a chirrps profile which can be reached by going to http://chirrps.com/[Twitter Username]. The profiles section is a revolutionary way for Twitter users to engage with one another.
The Message Board shows tweets that were sent to a user as well as the user’s latest tweets. The Tweets tab lets you see a user’s latest, most popular, and favorite tweets as well as any time that user has been mentioned. You can view any photos or videos that a user has uploaded to a third party twitter client (TwitPic, Yfrog, TwitVid, etc.). While this is done automatically, a user can assign Flickr, Picasa, YouTube, and Vimeo accounts to their profile after logging in.
Once logged in, a user can retweet, reply, and follow users all without leaving the site.
We are extremely excited about our beta version and are working hard on improvements and more features. Please let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions for improvement.
Thanks so much!
